As part of Berlin, Germany’s strategic rehabilitation of wastewater pressure lines through 2040, client Berlin Water Utilities (Berliner Wasserbetriebe) is carrying out extensive pipeline work along a section of the Tempelhofer Damm, a main north-south artery through the city.
In this project, Lahmeyer Deutschland has been commissioned with project management services for the fields of activity "organisation, coordination, reporting", "deadlines" and "costs" across all fields of activity, as well as with pro rata award procedure services.
The construction site extends from the Platz der Luftbrücke square to Borussiastraße in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district. At the same time as the planned rehabilitation of three sewage pressure pipes, extensive rehabilitation work will be carried out on the existing rainwater, wastewater and drinking water systems. Finally, in connection with the road construction, an adjustment is planned to improve traffic.
Alongside the pipeline construction work, Berlin Water Utilities (BWU) is planning a cross-media, coordinated structural project implementation known as a "city project." The aim is the sustainable rehabilitation of all media in the construction area, so that after completion of the works, no further civil engineering and road construction work would be required in this area of Tempelhofer Damm.
The goal is to rehabilitate BWU’s water management installations with a potential adjustment of the road space profile, in particular with regard to bicycle traffic, as well as the simultaneous rehabilitation of the BVG underground railway tunnel ceilings and a renewal of Stromnetz Berlin GmbH’s power lines. In the course of the renovation of the sewage pressure lines in Tempelhofer Damm, a sewage heat exchanger will be installed to supply heat to the former Tempelhof airport building.
The project began in 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
“The rehabilitation of water management and other facilities in this key area of Berlin will be of long-term benefit to the inhabitants of the district. Significant improvements to water quality, water supply and water disposal will enhance the lives of Berliners for generations to come.”
