Extending Luxembourg’s free tram line

In early 2020, Tractebel was delighted to be among the winning Design & Build Consortium for section C of the tramway network in Luxembourg. Together with the Consortium members, the Urban team of Tractebel in Belgium is looking forward to continuing the collaboration with Luxtram to deliver an additional 1.2-km transport infrastructure segment - part of the 16.2-km tram network - with two new tram stations, including the multimodal exchange hub “Lycée Bonnevoie” in 2022 .

The Luxtram project is part of the Grand Duchy’s groundbreaking mobility strategy, a win-win initiative that encourages greener mobility alternatives while easing the financial burden on lower-income passengers.

“In March 2020, the Luxembourgish government introduced free mobility by giving access to its entire public transport network, free of charge. For all. A bold decision that will contribute to better mobility, especially in cities. Through our involvement in the construction of the new tram network, we are delighted to contribute to the future of mobility of Luxembourg, share our experience of integrated urban tramway development and to collaborate with such an imaginative Client.”
